4 Ice Skating Rinks to Enjoy in Bend and Central Oregon
If you’re looking for something to do while you’re in a winter wonderland like Bend / Central Oregon, then look no further than doing some ice skating with your friends and family! There’s of course much more to do while in town, but these are four places you’ll want to consider depending on where you’re located, whether your visiting for your first time or you live here.
1. Seventh Mountain Resort Ice Skating Rink (in Bend)
When it comes to sliding around on the ice, this is the first option we highly recommend: Seventh Mountain Resort. This has long been a family tradition, and it’s also the oldest rink in Central Oregon. What we love about it is that it’s outdoors and you’re in the element. You’ll experience Christmas lights, (holiday) music, the fresh, cool air (and sometimes snow), and you can also go to the restaurant and bar they have to enjoy some delicious food and seasonal beverages…can you ask for more? They also have skate rentals. You can find more details here: 7th Mountain Resort Ice Skating.
Pro Tip: If you make reservations online, you’ll save $3 per person. Also, because it’s an outdoor rink, it’s subject to weather delays and closures, so a reservation allows them to inform you if there are any cancelations or delays for your session.
2. Sunriver Ice Skating at the Village at Sunriver Ice Arena
Just a 15-20 minute drive south of Bend, you’ll find our second choice, because if you don’t already know, it’s magical in Sunriver this time of year (actually any time of the year)! This is an indoor-outdoor style rink, that’s surrounded by Sunriver Village which has restaurants, shopping, lodging and more! They also have skate rentals. You can get more details here: Sunriver Ice Skating.
3. The Pavilion (in Bend)
In the heart of Bend, Oregon you’ll find the mostly indoor (but kind of outdoor) Pavilion ice skating rink. This is Central Oregon’s only full NHL-sized ice rink complete with a 200’ by 85’ ice sheet, and state-of-the-art systems that ensure quality ice even if/when the weather isn’t optimal. Glide and giggle on that ice with the comfort of a roof and transparent side panels to protect you from the outside elements. However, it still has that open-air feel. They also have plenty of seating, tables, and outdoor fire pits to keep warm. This rink is ran by Bend Parks & Recreation and also has skate rentals. You can find more details here: The Pavilion in Bend.
4. Redmond Outdoor Ice Skating Rink
If you happen to be staying just north of Bend in Eagle Crest Resort or Redmond, then you’ll want to check out the Redmond Outdoor Ice Skating Rink! Thanks to the City of Redmond and the Redmond Area Park & Recreation District, they’ve partnered to operate and maintain the portable ice skating rink and provide an economical and fun activity for families and friends to enjoy during the winter season. You can find more details here: Redmond Outdoor Ice Skating Rink.
There you have it, the four ice skating rinks in the Bend and Central Oregon area to enjoy with your family and friends! Which sounds the most fun to you? Have you been to any already…and what did you think? Let us know if you end up carving it up and gliding along that ice while you’re in town or while on vacation, we’d love to hear all about your experience!
